Surf City
As we were leaving Florida yesterday, we made a last minute decision to spend our final night on the beach instead of going to Mammoth Caves National Park in Kentucky. Having dipped a toe in the Pacific Ocean and Gulf of Mexico on this month-long adventure, we wanted to add the Atlantic to our list.
We ended up in Surf City, NC around 4pm. We knew our daylight hours were limited, so naturally, we went straight to the beach before doing anything else. What started as "getting our feet wet" and running in the sand, quickly turned into boogie boards and surfboards thanks to a kind man we rented a house from who could see our enthusiasm. (Ya'll aren't from around here, are ya? lol) It happened so quick, we ended up - jeans, t-shirts and all - rallying until dark! And we saw dolphins! Everywhere! Jumping out of the water!!
The next morning Lily and I paddled out to try and catch a wave on surfboards. I was so nervous for her, having not grown up around the ocean (as I did). I focused everything on telling her to paddle hard as we caught it. In turn, I was eaten by the wave, and when I came up to the waters surface afterward, there she was at shore having surfed her first wave. So awesome.
Oh the adventure...
